You Mean I'm NOT Perfect?!Like replacing bad habits with good ones, your irrational thoughts must be replaced with more rational, helpful  ones. Hopefully you have identified those thoughts that tend to plague you.

Maybe even filled out the BELIEFS INVENTORY.

Because now we are going to take a closer look at each of those pesky irrational thoughts spelled out in What are You Thinking.  

We looked at our irrational need for approval already.  Now it’s time to move on to Irrational Belief #2 – our desire to be perfect.

Let’s get started!

Irrational Belief #2:  

 I should be thoroughly competent, intelligent, and high-achieving in every area of my life.

Rational Thought: 

No one can be perfect. We are all a beautiful mix of strengths and flaws.

Trying for perfection does nothing but create anxiety – both in us and in those who must live with us.  It steals away the joy of living in the moment as it is, flaws and all.  And, it can alienate the people around us when we allow those perfectionistic standards to spill onto them.

Do your best with the skills and knowledge that you have in this moment.  That is enough. I promise. 

Countering Irrational Beliefs 2: Here’s a handy little printable worksheet to help you learn to counteract that voice in your head (and in your gut) that says it is necessary for you to be perfect.  Try it out.  You CAN change how you think.  And that WILL change how you feel and how you act.
