My journey toward my current life as owner of Harrington Creative Counseling was a long, twisty road. That’s a good thing because it allows me to bring a broad range of experience to the field of mental health counseling.
I first earned a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Florida State University. After working in nursing for several years, I learned that the part of nursing I liked the best involved patient education. I started working as an adjunct professor at Tallahassee Community College and gradually transitioned away from direct nursing practice.
During this time, I pursued graduate work in Instructional Design. This seemed like a good way to build my educational muscles. During those years, I worked with both corporate and nonprofit clients, including the Florida Department of Education, designing educational programs, distance training materials, corporate training courses.
I also put my accumulated knowledge and skills to work in the local community by facilitating homeschool groups for parents and children and leading summer programs for disadvantaged children.
Mental health education was a natural outgrowth of all of these endeavors. I graduated from CACREP-accredited Adams State College with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health and became a Nationally Certified Counselor .
I have worked within a variety of clinical settings, including both private and agency settings helping adults, families, adolescents and children deal with a broad range of challenges, including:
- Childhood Trauma
- Family Crises
- Family violence
- Foster placement
Now I am running my own small (but growing) private practice and teaching healthy coping skills to children and their families in a variety of settings. You can learn more about my practice by visiting my website. It’s been a long and twisty road – one that has required some serious adjusting along the way. But it is a good life and I’m glad you are here to share it.
